Freight rates in the Azov-Black Sea region continued to strengthen this week. Indicative levels for grain cargoes from Azov to Marmara Sea ports increased, reflecting a noticeable improvement compared to the previous week. The market is supported by weather restrictions and a reduction in available prompt tonnage.
Handysize (~30,000 DWT) remains influenced by weather factors. Adverse conditions in the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait area continue to disrupt vessel schedules and port operations. Delays reduce effective fleet turnaround and support freight levels; however, a downward correction from last week’s rates is observed on several routes.
Coaster (~5,000 DWT) shows more pronounced strengthening. Against the backdrop of limited tonnage availability and competition for the nearest loading windows, levels on key routes have increased. An additional supporting factor is the rise in grain purchase prices, which encourages exporters to take forward positions more actively, increasing the number of enquiries and intensifying competition for available vessels.
